WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR ON MY FIRST DAY?
Wear clothes you don't mind sweating in without metal enclosures. Bring a water bottle.
Should you decide to join, uniforms are required.
IS SPARRING safe?
Yes. Here it is.
Here at Mo Kwon Do we spend the first months only sparring with a few kicks, only to the body, with full protective gear: understanding the techniques, and eliminating the risks of head shots.
There will always be some risks in sparring, just as in any sport. But, with the right precautions and thoughtful progression of technique, injury risk is lessened.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SPARRING?
It's a lot of fun. Especially when you have a teacher show you how the game is more than just kicking.
It's great exercise. No shape is better than your fighting shape. A mixture between endurance, explosiveness, balance and flexibility.
A great community: You can't spar alone, and no matter who you train with you can always improve with each other.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO GETTING TO A HIGHER BELT?
We do not certify via the typical WT, ITF, ATA movement patterns. We have our own sparring curriculum that focuses solely on sparring techniques and their execution in live sparring. We do this to maintain the skill integrity of our belts, if you have a belt at another Tae Kwon Do school, great!
We simply have our own system - so if you want to improve your kicking technique and your sparring ability, we all work well together.
